Observing  

Observing is to notice something by using your senses.

These are:

• nose
• eyes
• ears
• tongue
• skin

Data  

Data is the information that is collected during observations that can be used to test and prove theories.

These could be:

• observations (senses)
• measurements (weight, time, size)
• testing
• surveys

These are the observation tools you will use this years for sure:

§1.1 - Substances:

A Substance is anything that has mass and takes up space. Substances are physical things that can be touched, seen, observed or measured. 

Scientists also sometimes refer to substances as matter.

Every substance also has its own unique characteristics, called properties of a substance.

• smell
• taste
• appearance
• phase at room temperature (liquid, gas or solid)
