Difference Active vs Passive Voice

Difference between Active & Passive Voice

1. ACTIVE VOICE: Emphasis on WHO does/did something
2. PASSIVE VOICE: does NOT emphasis on WHO, but emphasis on WHAT is happening (the action)

How do you make the Passive Voice?

Switch the subject (onderwerp) with the object (lijdend voorwerp).

To be + Past participle (voltooid deelwoord)

The passive voice of this sentence is:
Tom is painting the entire house.

1. The entire house paints Tom.
2. The entire house is being painted by Tom.
3. Tom has been painting the entire house.
4. The entire house was being painted by Tom.

Rephrase using the Passive Voice:
'The police arrested the convict.'

1. The convict was arrested.
2. The convict has been arrested.
3. The convict is arrested
4. The convict is being arrested.

Change into a passive voice:
Somebody smashed the window with a brick.

Change into a passive voice:
We will discuss the rest tomorrow.
