Aims

I can tell the difference between the past simple and past continuous

I can use the past simple and past continuous

Past Simple

- Gebruik je om te praten over een afgeronde handeling in het verleden.
I played volleyball last week/I flew to London last year. 

- Gebruik je om te praten over handelingen die vlak achter elkaar gebeurden in het verleden.
Joanna walked down the road, turned left and saw the house for the first time. 

Past Continuous

- Gebruik je om de sfeer/omgeving te beschrijven. 
The sun was shining, the children were playing outside. 
-  Om te praten over iets dat aan de gang was in het verleden.

At 7.30 this morning, I was waiting for the bus. 
- In combinatie met de Past Simple. Iets was in het verleden aan de gang (Past Continuous) en wordt 'onderbroken/er gebeurde iets' (Past Simple) 
While I was having lunch, my cousin phoned.

She was walking to school, when her phone rang.
We were making dinner when she arrived.
