  • She/he/it + was + verb-ing
  • you/we/they + were +  verb -ing
When to use the past continuous?
  1. to set the scene. For example: Chris was competing in a 20 kilometre race in Kenya 
  2. when a short action (past simple) interrupted a longer unfinished action (past continuous). For example: I was sleeping when you called me.
