Preposities van Instrument

By: Wordt gebruikt om methoden van transport aan te duiden. Het geeft aan hoe iets wordt gedaan of bereikt.

Voorbeeld: "They traveled by train to Paris.  "She sent the message by email."

"The area was illuminated by lanterns. 

With: Beschrijft het gebruik van gereedschappen, machines en andere apparaten. Het geeft het instrument of middel aan waarmee de actie wordt uitgevoerd.

Voorbeeld: "She cut the paper with scissors."    "He fixed the door with a hammer and nails."

Preposities van Verbinding

Of: Drukt bezit of relatie uit.

Voorbeeld: "The color of the sky is blue."The pages of the book are yellowed with age."

"The taste of the cake was delightful."

With: Geeft een begeleiding of relatie aan.

Voorbeeld: "He was with his friends at the party." She came to the party with her sister."

"The walls are decorated with paintings."

To: Duidt op een richting, bestemming, of een relatie.

Voorbeeld: "She gave the book to her teacher." "He admitted to the mistake."

"They moved to a new city for work."

From: Geeft de herkomst of startpunt aan.

Voorbeeld: "I received a postcard from Italy." 

 "Visitors from all over the world attended the festival."

Made of vs. Made from

Made of: Wordt gebruikt wanneer het materiaal waaruit het object bestaat nog in zijn oorspronkelijke vorm is na de vervaardiging.

Voorbeeld: "The desk is made of wood." The statue is made of bronze."

"This sweater is made of wool.

Made from: Gebruikt als het oorspronkelijke materiaal veranderd is om iets nieuws te maken.

Voorbeeld: "Wine is made from grapes."  " This smoothie is made from bananas and strawberries."

"Paper is made from recycled materials."
