Present continuous

Use this to:
- Indicate something is happening right now.
e.g. I am teaching a lesson.

You are listening to the teacher.

In Dutch you would say... 

Present continuous

Use this to:
- Indicate something is happening right now.
e.g. I am teaching a lesson.

You are listening to the teacher.

In Dutch you would say... aan het ... (doen zijn)
zit te ... (lezen)

Give an example of the present continuous

Past continuous

Use this to:
- Indicate something was happening in the past.
e.g. I was teaching a lesson when the bell rang.

You were listening to the teacher while they were talking.

In Dutch you would say... Ik was aan het... or ik zat te ...

Give an example of the past continuous

Change to reported speech:
I'm going to the store.

1. She said she was going to the store.
2. She says she is going to the store.
3. She had said she was going to the store.
4. She was saying she was going to the store.

Reported speech

Present -> He/she/they said (that)... + past
Past -> Past perfect (voltooid verleden tijd)

Reported speech 1

I like Netflix. -> She said that she liked Netflix. 

Or: She said she liked Netflix.

Reported speech 2

I saw him leave. -> They said they had seen him leave.

I saw him leave. -> He said (that) he had seen him leave.

If you don' t know if the speaker is a he or a she, you can use 'they' in English, even if it refers to one person.

For reported speech, if the original sentence is in the present simple, you use ___________ in reported speech.
