The staff

The staff contains music notes in two different ways. Namely:

1. Pitch: from high to low. Tells you which note you should play

2. Rhythm: from left to right. Says something about time and the moment you have to play a note. This creates rhythm. 

Pitch

 - in front of the staff you can see a treble clef. This clef shows you the location of the note called 'G'. 

- Names of the notes: C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C etc. etc

- It doesn't matter if the stem of a note points up or down. The most important thing is the 'dot'. This shows you how high or how low you should play the note.

The shape of the note tells you how long the note lasts. This is called duration or tone duration.
