FUTURE FORM

We bespreken er hier twee:

• to be going to + hele werkwoord
  
• will / shall + hele werkwoord

TO BE GOING TO

Je gebruikt to be going to + hele werkwoord:

– bij een plan / besluit dat al vaststaat of al eerder is afgesproken;

– bij een voorspelling op basis van een concrete aanwijzing, dus iets wat je bijvoorbeeld kunt zien of weten.

TO BE GOING TO EXAMPLES

I am going to see a play tonight.

I’m going to take a few exams at the end of the year.

It’s going to be difficult to get a job during the summer.

It's so cold! I think it is going to snow.

Dad’s not going to go to work today.

That tree is not going to fall down. It’s been there for ages.

WILL

Je gebruikt will / shall + hele werkwoord:

- bij een wens of een voorspelling waar geen concrete aanwijzingen voor zijn;

- bij een voorstel / aanbod / besluit dat spontaan, op het moment zelf wordt gemaakt.

WILL EXAMPLES

We’ll win the spelling contest!

I will do great on my test.

I hope she won’t tell the teacher about it.

She won’t get her degree this year.

SHALL

Je gebruikt shall in plaats van will als je een aanbod doet of suggestie maakt én de zin we of I als onderwerp heeft. 

In het Nederlands zeg je dan ‘Zal ik …’ of ‘Zullen we …’:

Shall I open the door for you?

Shall we start with maths this time?
