Grooming
  • When a person messages a young person over the internet, typically on a fake account, to "be their friend"
  • The person is overly nice
  • To meet up in person with intention of committing a crime

  • Targeting - Choosing a young person they can message, often pretending to be of a similar age
  • Gaining access - gain trust through attention, compliments or gifts
  • Trust development - Consistency in the above
  • Exposure to sexual content/acts 
  • Maintaining control - use of blackmail/shame/guilt to use against them
