2.2 - A new route

Around the year 1000 there was an increase in agricultural products. (more food)

Due to this the trade between cities flourished and expanded. Luxury products, like spices, had to come from Asia to Europe. The traders travelled on the Silk Route or over seas, this was both very expensive. > spices were expensive

2.2.2 Exploration

Not only discoverers and explorers went on journeys to in search of new lands. Missionairies went with them or alone with a special mission: to spread the word of God. (Crusades)

2.2.3 The Portugese

The portugese are the first to search for new routes overseas, because traveling over land becomes too dangerous. 

These explorations are sponsored by the Portugese monarch Henry the Navigator.
