Some and any both mean 'a number' or 'a few'.

Translated to Dutch: een beetje, een paar

• For negative sentences we use ANY. (not/don't/doesn't/never)
  
• For questions we use ANY.  (?)
  
• For positive sentences we use SOME. 

Example sentences

Do you have any sugar?   (question)

She doesn't have any sugar. (negative s.)

There aren't any apples left. (negative s.)

I need some eggs. (positive s.)

He has some sweets. (positive s.)
