What is a main point / supporting fact & side issue?

strategy: determining the main idea

The main idea is the most important idea or thought in the clip. It is what the speaker wants to make clear to the listener. It usually becomes clear at the beginning of the clip. Often the speaker repeats or summarises it later on. Pay attention to words like so, therefore, like I said before. These words are at the beginning of a sentence in which the main idea is given.
