Voorbeeld: I have been studying English for five years (vijf jaar lang en nu nog steeds). 
- als dingen vaker voorkomen, langere tijd duren, gewoonte zijn:
Voorbeeld: I have been waiting for your reply for over a week!
- bij de woorden 'recently' en 'lately':
Voorbeeld: Recently, I have been feeling sick.
