Gebruiken we om extra informatie te geven in een bijzin.

That teacher, who doesn't like me, gave me extra homework.

Om te verwijzen naar mensen

This is my best friend, ... lives next door.

Om te verwijzen naar dingen. 

This is my bike, ..... is very old.

Om aan te geven bij wie of wat iets hoort.

That's the friend .... bike was stolen.

Kan in plaats van which of who worden gebruikt, tenzij de bijzin met een komma begint.

That's the friend .... lives in Swansea.

that	wordt gebruikt in plaats van who/which alleen als er geen komma in de bijzin staat	The flour that I need for the cake is gone.
