strategies for reading 

• 3 types of questions: multiple choice / open / gap questions 
• Multiple choice: streep het “onzin” antwoord altijd eerst weg. Dan heb je nog twee antwoorden. Kijk goed wat het verschil is. Staat er een specifieke alinea in de vraag (kijk daar goed naar!!)
• Open questions: 
• Citeren zin? ->  eerste twee woorden van de zin. Staat duidelijk in de vraag hoe ze willen dat je citeert. 
• Een groep woorden aangeven of conclusie uitleggen? -> in het Nederlands

strategies for reading 

• Gap question (MC): lees de tekst voor en na invullijntje, dan bepaal je de functie van het in te vullen woord, bepaal de woordsoort, kijk goed of er een verband is tussen het deel voor en na het lijntje. Kijk dan naar de opties. Vaak gaat het hier om linking words (although, moreover, thus etc.)

Wat is de woordsoort?

Kijk goed aan de hand van de context welke betekenis het woord zou kunnen hebben (vb. present)

Herken je het woord uit een andere taal? (pas op voor false friends, zoals fabric vs. fabriek / attendre vs. to attend / location vs. location

What to do with unknown words?

•  Look at prefixes/suffixes (dis-, un-, mis-, -le/-ly)
• Can you find a synonym in the text or perhaps in the answers?
• Can the context give you more information on the meaning of the word?
• How important is it to know the exact meaning in order to answer the question? -> If it is important, use a dictionary.
