strategies for reading
3 types of questions: multiple choice / open / gap questions
Multiple choice: cross out the "nonsense" answer first, nothing is mentioned about this answer in the text most of the time.
Underline the verbs (ex: what is the meaning of the example in paragraph 1? to explain, to introduce etc.)
Open questions:
Always answer in Dutch!
citing? -> often two first words of a sentence.

Gap question (MC): Read the sentence before and after. What is the connection here? Take a good look at the function of the word (verb/noun/adjective) Often, these questions are about linking words:
Is it a conclusion that will follow? ->finally, thus etc.
Is it a contradiction? -> however, nevertheless etc.
Is there an argument that will be added to the list? -> moreover, in addition etc.
p. 128-132 yellow pages in your textbook -> useful wordlist!
Herken je het woord uit een andere taal? (pas op voor false friends, zoals fabric vs. fabriek / attendre vs. to attend / location vs. location

What to do with unknown words?
Look at prefixes/suffixes (dis-, un-, mis-, -le/-ly)
Can you find a synonym in the text or perhaps in the answers?
Can the context give you more information on the meaning of the word?
How important is it to know the exact meaning in order to answer the question? -> If it is important, use a dictionary.
