Grammar 14: One and ones
- Use 'one' for singular: That's the book I want, I like that one.

- Use 'ones' for plural: Those are the ones I want. 

A pair of trousers is used for plural, because it has two legs. Same goes for a pair of scissors.

Grammar 15: Past perfect vs Past simple
Two things happened in the past.
- The one that happens first: past perfect: had + voltooid deelwoord
- The one that happens second: past simple 

Before I brushed my teeth, I had already taken a shower
I had talked to my mom before I went to work.

Articles: a/an/the/X
A: if the sound of the word that follows is pronounced. 
(a letter/a phone/a laptop/a console/a university)

AN: if the sound of the word that follows is pronounced as a vowel (klinker).
(an orange/an x-ray/an elephant/a uniform)

THE: when you talk about a specific thing.
(let's go the party I talked about). That is the teacher I dislike.

When do you leave it out? X
When do you NOT use an article? When you talk about:
1. Members of a group/country 
(Americans always eat a lot of junkfood/French people refuse to speak English)

2. When a sentence starts with 'most/all and both'
(both students were named student of the week/Most teachers hate grading tests)

3. Special titles or functions
(He is President of the USA/She is prime minister)

4. Streetnames/lakes/buildings like schools or hospitals)
Niftarlake College is based in Maarssen/Lake Loch Ness is surrounded by mystery/

Grammar 19: Like and as
Like: when you give examples of something
(your sister looks like you/it tastes like chocolate cookies)

As: when you compare two things with each other. Could be a comparison from different times or years.

(In England they drive on the left, as do we in Australia)
(She sings to me at night, as my mother used to do when I was little).

Routine sentences from your life: ( in English)

- What do you do when you get up? And what do you do after?
- How do you prepare before you start your sport/hobby?
- What do you do right before you go to sleep?

Wanneer je praat over twee dingen die beiden in het verleden zijn gebeurd. 
Hetgeen als eerste gebeurd: had + voltooid deelwoord
Hetgeen daarna gebeurd: 2e rijtje/ed/didn't + hele ww

Before I took a shower, I had already drunk my coffee
After I had spoken to my mum, I went to bed.
