ADJECTIVES + ADVERBS

Is the underlined word an adjective or adverb?

Mike is a good singer.

Is the underlined word an adjective or adverb?

He drives the car carefully.

Is the underlined word an adjective or adverb?

He sings well. 

Rules

1. Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord zegt iets over een zelfstandig naamwoord:

- His blue jacket got lost at that boring party.

2. Een bijwoord kan iets zeggen over een werkwoord:

- He laughs loudly.

3. Een bijwoord kan iets zeggen over een bijvoeglijk naamwoord:

- He has a remarkably loud voice.

4. Een bijwoord kan iets zeggen over een ander bijwoord:

- He laughs very loudly.

5. Een bijwoord kan iets zeggen over een hele zin:

- Hopefully, she will call me back later.

Spelling bijwoord

Basisregel:
het bijvoeglijk naamwoord + ly

bad -> badly

Uitzonderingen:

 Bijvoeglijk naamwoorden die eindigen op:

• -le krijgen -ly in plaats van -le: adorable - adorably
  
• medeklinker + y krijgen- ily in plaats van -y: heavy - heavily
  
• -ic krijgen -ally erachter: automatic - automatically
• 'Silent e is dropped in true, due, whole: true -> truly

Onregelmatige bijwoorden

De spelling van deze bijwoorden is hetzelfde als die van het bijvoeglijk naamwoord. Je moet uit je hoofd leren voor welke bijwoorden dit geldt.

A review

A review is a way to express your opinion about something.

1. Title + Introduction

Name what you are going to be reviewing. Identify the book, restaurant or film. 

2. Main content/body:

• 1. Summarize the plot in a few sentences.
  
• 2. Mention the setting: the place and time of the plot.
  
• 3. Say something about the main characters.
  
• 4. Say something about the content.

3. Conclusion:

1. Comment on the book or film.

2. Let others know whether or not you liked the book/film.

3. Why do you like it? Why don't you like it?

4. Is the author's style good or bad, is the book/film interesting or boring, etc?

5. Do you want to recommend the book/film?

Film review - The green mile

Read the movie review about The Green Mile.

Answer the questions on the back of the paper.
