- past tense

- happened during a specific time in the past

Signal words: last week, in 2012, yesterday etc.

was/were + verb + -ing

- past tense

- event that was happening around a certain time in the past

Past continuous > was already happening (longer action)

Past simple > interrupted the other action (short action)
