Why is the future tense (toekomst tijd) used?

Future tense

The future is used to indicate that something is going to happen in the (near) future. (iets gaat in de toekomst gebeuren)

How to use the future tense?

4 ways to use the Future tense

Present simple	iets gaat gebeuren volgens een vast schema (rooster)	The bus leaves at 6. The workshop is next week. Hele werkwoord + -s
Present continuous	iets die in de nabije toekomst zal plaatsvinden	I am flying to Paris next week. to be + werkwoord met –ing
to be going to	wat je van plan bent, of wat vast wel zal gebeuren	We a re going to bu y a new car soon. to be + going to + hele werkwoord .
will/shall	iets die nog gaat gebeuren	I will go to New York one day. Shall I bring you a drink? will + hele werkwoord
