Wanneer gebruiken we deze vorm? 
- als iets in het verleden een tijdje duurde of aan de gang was:
This time last year I  was living in Hong Kong
- wanneer een actie nog bezig is, maar onderbroken wordt: 
We were watching TV, when the door bell rang

Wanneer gebruiken we deze vorm? 
- als iets in het verleden een tijdje duurde of aan de gang was:
This time last year I  was living in Hong Kong
- wanneer een actie nog bezig is, maar onderbroken wordt: 
We were watching TV, when the door bell rang

Spellingsverandering bij het maken van de -ing-vorm
- Als het werkwoord eindigt op een -e, laat je die weg:
   to lose -- losing; to have -- having 
- Als het werkwoord eindigt op een medeklinker met één klinker ervoor, dan       verdubbel je de medeklinker:
   to hit -- hitting; to get -- getting
                    Dit geldt niet als het werkwoord eindigt op een -w of een -x:
                       to snow -- snowing
- Als het werkwoord eindigt op -ie, verandert dat in -y
   to tie -- tying; to lie -- lying
