I was walking on the street when I saw a very famous celebrity. I stopped to see who it was. 


*Wat was hier aan de gang toen de actie werd onderbreken.

Hoe maak je hem? 
Je gebruikt was / were + het werkwoord + ing om aan te geven dat iets een tijd aan de gang was. 
She was talking to a good friend..... (zij was aan het praten met een goede vriend(in)...

Je gebruikt de verleden tijdsvorm (werkwoord + ed / 2e vorm) om aan te geven dat de actie werd onderbroken. 
when her mother came in. (toen haar moeder binnenkwam)

-I was walking on the street when you saw your friend.
-You were walking on the street when you saw your friend.
-He/she/it was walking on the street when he/she/it....
-we were walking on the street when we saw our friend. 
-They were walking on the street when we they saw their friend.

In de situatie hierboven waren er twee dingen tegelijkertijd aan de gang 
-Je ouders waren de afwas aan het doen terwijl jij muziek aan het luisteren was.

while (terwijl) -> je gebruikt dan twee keer was/were + werkwoord + ing 
when (toen) -> onderbrak de actie -> je gebruikt dan het werkwoord + ed / 2e vorm (or. ww)
