"The sun was shining and the birds were singing as the elephant came out of the jungle. The other animals were relaxing in the shade of the trees, but the elephant moved very quickly. She was looking for her baby, and she didn't notice the hunter who was watching her through his binoculars. When the shot rang out, she was running towards the river..."

Past Continuous - when to use?

• Als iets in het verleden een tijd(je) aan de gang was. 
  > You were walking home (yesterday). 
• Als iets in het verleden een aan de gang was en werd onderbroken.
  > I was walking home, when you told me about the story.

Op de volgende slides. Schrijf een past continuous zin met het onderwerp (I, you, he, she , it enz.) and werkwoord gegeven. 

Write a past continuous:
I / walk / to school

Write a past continuous:
They / wait / for the bus to arrive

Write a past continuous:
he / cook / a lovely dinner.

They / watch / television

Past continuous - Questions

Om een zin vragend (question) te maken met de Past continuous moet je de 'verb to be' voor het onderwerp van de zin plaatsen. Dat doen we zo... 

• What were you doing when it happened?
• Why was he talking to you?

Maak de past continuous zin vragend.
He was playing football.

Maak de past continuous zin vragend.
She was talking to a friend.

Maak de past continuous zin vragend.
I was running for the bus.

You were sleeping.

Past continuous - Negative

Om een zin ontkennend (negative) te maken met de Past continuous moet je de 'not' tussen het werkwoord en de verb to be van de zin plaatsen. Dat doen we zo... 

• You were not doing when it happened?
• He was not talking to you?

Maak de past continuous zin negatief.
He was playing football.

Maak de past continuous zin negatief.
She was talking to a friend.

Maak de past continuous zin negatief.
I was running for the bus.

Maak de past continuous zin negatief.
You were sleeping.
