Past Simple

Iets dat in het verleden is gebeurd en is geëindigd. 

Example: I saw a great film last night.

Past Simple vs Past Continuous

Past Continuous: iets is in het verleden bezig

Past Simple: toen iets anders gebeurde

Hetgeen dat dus als eerste gebeurt (en een tijdje bezig is geweest) krijgt de Past Continuous.

Example: She was writing a letter when the phone rang.
