What do you need to do?

You read a large text and answer 6 multiple choice questions.
It tests:

- gist

- detailed reading

- the opinion / attitude of the author

Good to know

• First and last questions are usually more general
  (asks opinion or attitude)
  
  
• The middle questions are more specific

1. You get caught in the wrong information - Cambridge tries to trick you

2. You are looking all over the text for the answer - wasting time

3. Wasting time by not following a plan or strategy.

Tips / Strategies ! ! !

1. Read the text quickly
2.  Analyse the questions (not the answers!)
3. Try to answer the questions
   (without looking at answers A-D)
4. Compare your answer to options A-D
5. Check the text again if you have to

• Read very carefully and underline important words

We underline:
"In the first paragraph" and "main point" and "island"

3. Answer the question without looking at the options!

What did you find out?

• the island and its connection to the mainland.
• sometimes can't get there because the road gets covered by water.

That's it!

4. Compare your answers with options A-D

Obviously, options A, B and D do not match the answer you came up with yourself.

Therefore, reading the answers first can cause confusion.

So C. is the correct answer:

C. It is only completely cut off at certain times

WORD SPOTTING

When we see a word in the text and in the answers and we think that those questions contain the correct answer.

We saw "mainland" in the text.

We saw "mainland" in options A and B.

But these options don't match the information in the text at all.

 is worth 2 marks each!
