Past Simple

The past simple is used for past actions or events that are completed. Example: I walked to the store yesterday.

Formation

To form the past simple, add '-ed' to regular verbs or use the second form of irregular verbs. To form the past continuous, use 'was/were' + present participle verb. Example: walked (past simple) vs. was walking (past continuous).

Signal words can indicate when to use a specific past tense. For the past simple, use words such as yesterday, last night, or ago. For the past continuous, use words such as while, when, or as.
