  • In August, the Russians invaded
    East Prussia and Austria.

Because the western front was stuck, the Germans transferred troops to the eastern front in 1915.
In 1916, the Russians fought back and penetrated deep into Austria, but then it was over with Russia's military strength.
Unrest
  • Russian industry was too small to supply the troops with clothing, food, arms, ammunition and other necessities.
  • --> food shortages led to unrest.

  • Tsar Nicholas II was deposed in February 1917 after an uprising.
