Conjunctions - Voegwoorden

Als je delen van zinnen met elkaar wil verbinden dan gebruik je voegwoorden.

Ze drukken ook een bepaalde relatie (wat die 2 delen met elkaar te maken hebben) tussen die delen van zinnen uit, bijvoorbeeld een gevolg of een tegenstelling.

soorten conjunctions

• Je geeft uitleg (reden / oorzaak)
• Je noemt een gevolg / resultaat
• Je geeft een keuzemogelijkheid aan
• Je geeft een tegenstelling aan / maakt een vergelijking
• Je verbind tijd aan 

reden/ oorzaak

• because (omdat): I'm late because I missed the bus.
• because of (vanwege): Jamie is sad because of the fight with his parents.
• as (omdat): As it was raining, my trousers were wet when I arrived.
• since (want): I am staying home, since it is raining.

gevolg

• so (dus): He is busy so he's not coming to the party.
• so that (zodat): I went to my room so that I could do my homework.
• when (als):  The exercises are easy when you are paying attention
• if (als): If you don't pay attention you will not understand the grammar.

Keuze

•  or (of): We should choose this one or the other.

tegenstelling/ vergelijking

• but (maar): I like rap but she likes metal.
• however (aan de andere kant): I love spaghetti. Jane, however, does not.
• although (hoewel): Although he's good at English, she failed the test.
• though (maar): We ate at that restaurant, though I didn't like it.
• despite (ondanks): Despite their fight, they still love each other.

tijd

as soon as (zodra):  I'll call you as soon as I get home.

until (tot, totdat) : Please don' t start the film until I get there. 

When (wanneer / toen): He was surprised when he opened the gift. 

if/when

Er zijn twee manieren om 'als' te vertalen: if en when.

1. When> Als het zeker is dat iets gaat gebeuren:

2. If> Als het niet zeker is dat iets gaat gebeuren:
