Read the text and answer the questions.

My weekend

I did many things over the weekend. On Friday I was cooking pasta when the bell rang. I walked to the door and got a flower delivery. I went back to the kitchen and finished cooking the pasta. After dinner my husband and I watched a movie while I was putting on a face mask. On Saturday my boyfriend and I drove from Utrecht to Maarssen and went to an escape room. While we were escaping we got stuck in one of the rooms and security had to free us. It was quite the adventure. On Sunday I went to IKEA with my sister. We met up with my dad while we were shopping and stopped for some Swedish meatballs on our way out.

A short completed action in the past. 

Verb + ed or the irregular verbs.

I finished work early and went home.

My parents called me yesterday.

Sam played basketball when he was at university.

A longer action in progress in the past.

Combination of the Past Simple & Continuous: 

a longer action (PC) is interupted by another action (PS). 

I was watching Squid Game in the dark when somebody knocked on the door.

I ... (burn) myself when I ... (make) breakfast.
