Getting to Know Each Other: Welcome to Our Class!

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson, you will have learned about each other and the secondary school in the Netherlands.

Introduce Yourself

Share your name, hobbies, and something interesting about yourself.

Model the activity by introducing yourself first. Encourage students to be creative and open.

Guess the Name

Look at the picture and guess the name of the person shown.

Display a slide with a picture of a student. Ask students to raise their hands and guess the name. Encourage participation.

Name Pronunciation Practice

Practice saying each other's names correctly. Pair up with a partner and take turns pronouncing names.

Pair students up and provide them with a list of names. Instruct them to take turns practicing name pronunciations.

Name Trivia

Write down three interesting facts about yourself related to your name. Share with a partner.

Encourage students to think creatively and share unique facts about themselves. Remind them to listen actively to their partner's facts.

Classroom Scavenger Hunt

Find someone who has a specific characteristic listed on the slide. Introduce yourselves and write their name next to the characteristic.

Provide a list of characteristics for students to find in their classmates. Instruct them to interact with each other, introducing themselves and writing down names.

School Tour

Take a virtual tour of our secondary school. Learn about different facilities, classrooms, and extracurricular activities.

Prepare a slideshow or video tour of the school. Narrate the tour and explain key features of the school. Encourage questions and interactions.

Classroom Agreement

Discuss and agree on class rules and expectations. Write them down as a group.

Facilitate a class discussion on what rules and expectations the students believe are important. Write down the agreed-upon rules for future reference.

The students indicate here (in question form) with which part of the material they still have difficulty. For the teacher, this not only provides insight into the extent to which the students understand/master the material, but also a good starting point for the next lesson.
