Around 200bc Rome started to expand their influence to the east.

146 BC Greece was conquered

30 BC Egypt was conquered

Each province was ruled by a governer.

-succesful generals didn't take orders from the senate anymore. Because they had the loyality of Roman Legions. 

-Because of this Roman Civil wars broke out.

-The most succesful General was Julius Ceasar. He forced the senate to appoint him dictator

Two years later the senate murdered him. Hoping that the senate would get its power back. They were wrong!

The end of the Roman Republic

1)After the death of Ceasar a new civil war erupts.

2)Octavian defeated all his enemies and wins the war.

3)Octavian founded the empire in 27 BC 

4)Octavian becomes emperor Augustus.

This was possible because of:

-The rule of capable emperors.

-Borders were guarded.

-Roman armies could travel with the help of roads to each corner of the empire. They could restore order.
