you can listen to spoken English in different situations:

- announcements and instructions

- TV, video- and audiorecordings

- in a live audience

- in conversations

mention some situations you may encounter

how do you make sure you will understand what is said?

before you start listening

- what do you know about the subject?

- can you prepare for what you're going to listen to?

- decide what you want to learn

Most of the time it's a combination of these questions
