Voorzetsels

Voorzetsels in het Engels zijn: prepositions. 

Een voorzetsel gebruik je om bijvoorbeeld richting aan te geven (through), of iets te beschrijven (with) 

Prepositions: 

Je gebruikt by als je het hebt over manieren van vervoer. 

- I travelled by car (ik reisde met de auto)

Je gebruikt with om het gebruik van machines, andere apparaten en gereedschap te beschrijven of dingen die bij elkaar zijn. 

- The shoe was made with a 3D printer. (de schoen is met een 3D printer gemaakt)

- I am in a relationship with Robert 

Je gebruikt from om aan te geven waar iets of iemand vandaan komt.

- I am from the Netherlands 

Je kunt across, around, away from, down, from, into, off, over, through en to gebruiken om aan te geven in welke richting iets of iemand zich beweegt.

- She is across the street. 

- I jumped off the bridge

(A) little, (a) few, much, many, lots of, a lot of

Je gebruikt telwoorden als (a) few, (a) little, much, many, lots of en a lot of om iets te zeggen over hoeveelheden.

Je gebruikt a little en a few om te zeggen dat er niet veel van iets is. A little betekent ‘een beetje’ en gebruik je voor dingen je die niet kunt tellen (bijvoorbeeld ‘plezier’

 A few betekent ‘een paar’ en gebruikt je voor dingen die je wel kunt tellen (bijvoorbeeld ‘vogels’). Je kunt a little en a few gebruiken zonder a ervoor. Het betekent dan ‘weinig’.

She brought a few books with her to read on the train.

She had little work left, so she could leave early.

Je gebruikt much bij dingen die je niet kunt tellen en many bij dingen die je wel kunt tellen. 

Je kunt ook lots of en a lot of gebruiken om te zeggen dat er veel van iets is. Lots of en a lot of kun je gebruiken voor dingen die je niet én wel kunt tellen.
