Moving to an other country is called migration.

Many western and non-western immigrants settled in the Netherlands since the 1950's.

Explanation: former kolonies

-After WWII many Indo-European people moved from indonesia to the Netherlands

-Also Moluccan soldiers who fought for the Royal Dutch East Indies army (KNIL) moved to the Netherlands.

-In the 1970's 200.000 surinamese people migrated to the Netherlands.

Explanation: Guest workers

A guest worker is a foreigner who works in the Netherlands.

In 1949 many workers were needed to work in the mines in Limburg.

Many people form southern Europe and Morrocco and Turkey moved to the Netherlands to work in the mines.

Guest workers were allowed to move their families to Europe.

Most People from Spain and Italy went home but many people from Morocco and Turkey stayed.

Explanation: Refugees

People who are fleeing from war or are being prosecuted are called refugees.

People who fled to the Netherlands because they are poor are sent back.

The immigrants who settled in the Netherlands after 1945 brought their cultures with them. As a result the Netherlands became a multi-ethnic and multicultural society.
