Can/Could

Je gebruikt can om te zeggen dat iemand (iets) kan.

vb. He can tell you how to get there.
(Hij kan je vertellen hoe je daar moet komen)

Je gebruikt cannot (can't) om te zeggen dat (iemand) iets niet kan.

I cannot swim./I can't swim. (Ik kan niet zwemmen)

Can/could

Je gebruikt could om te zeggen dat iemand iets zou kunnen.

vb. They could tell you the way to the station.

(Zij zouden je de weg naar het station kunnen vertellen)

can/could

Vragen stellen.

Als je wilt vragen of (iemand) iets kan, zet je can vooraan in de zin. 

vb. Can I help you?

(Kan ik je helpen?)

De rest van de zin blijft hetzelfde.

can/could

Bij vragen is het beleefde om could te gebruiken.

vb. Could you say that again, please?

(Zou je dat nog een keer kunnen zeggen?)
