Landscape in layers

Slide 1 - Diapositive

Theory picture aspect space
For this assignment, we will deal with the following aspects:

Overlap

Cut-off

Reduction

Couldering

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Overlap
Image elements are placed before/over each other.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Cut-of
The image is cut off at the edges. The elements are not quite there.

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Reduction
Making elements smaller than others makes them appear further away. They should also then be higher in the image.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

Coldering
Like on a theatre stage, elements are placed to the side of the image, creating an idea of depth.

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Repoussoir
Placing a large element in the foreground makes everything else seem further away.

Slide 7 - Diapositive

So:
These are your ‘tools’ to create your own landscape in 3D where you will make use of these aspects that can all create an idea of space in what is actually flat.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

Assigment:
You will make a landscape out of cardboard in different layers in which, using the aspects covered, you will create space.

Choose from:
- in the city
- in the countryside
- in the woods
- at the beach
- an underwater landscape

Specifications

* format = A5

Slide 10 - Diapositive

Working method
1. Find 4 image of a landscape and print it out.
2. Choose the best ones and make 4 separate
drawings (one for each layer) in A5 format.
3. Cut out the layers and lay them on top of each other to
   see if it all fits.
4. Copy the layers onto the cardboard.
(Save all!!!!!)
5. Cut out all the layers neatly.
6. Small shapes are sometimes tricky. If necessary, make them from thinner cardboard
7. Use your imagination to shape the landscape to your liking
8. Take a nice picture of your piece and place it in the classroom.

Finish everything off neatly!
