There are 4 types of conditionals

ZERO conditional

FIRST conditional

SECOND conditional

THIRD conditional

Watch the following tutorial and make notes!

We use the zero conditional to talk about things that are generally true, especially for laws and rules.

example: 

If I drink too much coffee , I can't sleep at night

fill in ZERO conditional

Zero Conditional

If + PRESENT SIMPLE , PRESENT SIMPLE

zero conditional

 infinitive = the basic form of a verb

example:

to go

to live

to breathe

to be

We use the first conditional when we talk about future situations we believe are real or possible.

Example:

If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to the beach

First conditional
Arsenal ............. be top of the league if they win.

When I ..................(finish) work , I'.......... call you

FIRST CONDITIONAL

If + PRESENT SIMPLE , will + Verb infinitive

First conditional
If we leave now , .......................................

This is for talking about an unlikely or unreal condition.

example:

If you travelled less because of me, I would feel worse.

We use the past simple to show that it's not likely , not to indicate past time

2nd conditional
If I ......... (have) the opportunity to visit far-away places , I ................. not complain

Second Conditional

If + PAST SIMPLE , Would + Verb infinitive

2nd conditional
If I finished work earlier , ...................................................

Past perfect:

I had been to his place before I went home

She had written him a letter which said she loved him.

past tense of verb HAVE + past participle verb

For hypothetical situations in the past or regrets about the past.

example:

If the campsite had been by the sea, we would have gone there.

3rd conditional
