Predicting: what do you think is the text about?
Skimming: understanding the main idea and concept.
Scanning: look for key information (for example: names, dates, numbers)
Intensive reading: read and understand the complete text.

To get the big picture, the global idea
Focus on what the text is about in general
Search for the source (=bron) of your text
Read the first and last paragraph
Read the first and last line of the other paragraphs
Skip words you don't know

When you are looking for specific information
Look for keywords that tell you more about what you are looking for in a text
When you find the information you are looking for, read that part more intensely
Look at bold or underlined words or words in italics.
