There are 4 ways to talk about the future in English:

1. Will/Shall

2. To be going to

3. Present Simple

4. Present Continuous

Will/Shall

Predictions or decisions made at the moment of speaking

Predictions without proof.

1. I will help you.

2. It will be dark soon.

To be going to

When someone is planning to do something (or not)

A prediction with proof

Hoe? Am/are/is (to be) + going to + verb

1. It is going to rain, look at the clouds!

2. I am going to a party this weekend.

Present Simple

Schedules (train, bus, school, movie theatre, etc.)

Bij alle personen: de stam van het werkwoord

Bij he/she/it: stam + S

1. The train leaves at 4 pm from platform 5A.

2. The show starts in ten minutes.

Present Continuous

To talk about appointments where the time/place has been set (arrangements)

Hoe? Am/are/is + werkwoord + ING

1. He is leaving for New Zealand tomorrow.
2. I am meeting Susan at the train station.

The train ____ at 11:45.

1. leaves
2. is leaving
3. is going to leave
4. will leave

Look! Those girls ____ that busy highway.

1. cross

Sharon ____ her birthday next Saturday at 2 pm.
