A process used by organizations to compare and evaluate their performance against industry best practices or competitors in order to identify areas for improvement.

A process where you measure your company's succes against competitors to discover how to improve your performance.

3 types of Benchmarking: 

1. Internal Benchmarking--> compare performance and practices within different departments or units (food, non-food department)

2. Functional Benchmarking-->Involves comparing specific business functions, such as customer service or supply chain management, with those of other organisations regardless of industry.
