The Layers of the Earth

How many layers do you think the earth has?

There are four major layers to the Earth:

• CRUST
• MANTLE
• OUTER CORE
• INNER CORE

CRUST

• The outer most layer
• Covers the earth like a shell
• The layer where we live
• The thinnest layer

MANTLE

• The layer right below the crust
• Made of rocks and ice
• The largest and thickest layer 

OUTER CORE

• Made of liquid iron and nickel
• Creates magnetic field of the entire planet

INNER CORE

• The inner most layer
• Solid, made mostly of nickel and iron
• Temperatures as high as 5200^oC
• Helps to create magnetic field of earth
