Past Simple vs Past Continuous

What can you remember about the past simple and/or past continuous tenses?

Past Simple

- Afgesloten verleden

- Regelmatig: stam+ed (bijvoorbeeld: worked, walked)

- Onregelmatig: tweede rijtje (bijvoorbeeld: swam, bought)

- Signaalwoorden: yesterday, last week, ago, in 1999....

Use the past simple:
Kelly ... (worry) a lot about her job last week.

1. worryd
2. worried
3. worreed
4. worries

Use past simple:
I... (buy) an advent calender yesterday.

1. buyed
2. boght
3. buys
4. bought

Past Simple: vragen en ontkenningen

Bij vragen en ontkenningen gebruik je het hulpwerkwoord: did gevolgd door het hele ww. 

Stel we willen deze zin ontkennend maken en vragend:

She worked at the supermarket last Saturday. 

Did she work at the supermarket last Saturday?

She didn't work at the supermarket last Saturday.

Maak vragend:
He liked old movies a lot.

1. He doesn't like old movies a lot.
2. He didn't liked old movies a lot.
3. He didn't like old movies a lot.
4. He don't like old movies a lot.

Maak vragend:
Jane fought many battles.

1. Did Jane fight many battles?
2. Did Jane fought many battles?
3. Does Jane fight many battles?
4. Fought Jane many battles?

Past Continuous

Gebruiken we om aan te geven dat iets langer duurde in het verleden. 

Vaak samen met een andere gebeurtenis of wanneer het ene het andere verstoord. 

He was walking for a while yesterday. 

I was doing the dishes when the doorbell rang.

She was playing football when he texted her. 

Past Continuous

Belangrijk: de gebeurtenis die het langste duurt krijgt dus de past continuous vorm. De andere werkwoorden in de zin krijgen dan de past simple. 

The dog escaped while they were walking.

The children ..... (play) in the park when it started to rain.

I ... (see) a famous celebrity when I was shopping.

1. seen
2. was seeing
3. saw
4. were seeing

They ... (notice) that they ... (watch) them.

1. notice, watch

The boys ... (not-go) because it ... (rain).

1. didn't went - was raining
2. didn't go - was raining

4. didn't go - rained

When the light ... (go) out, I ... (have) a bath.

1. went, was having

The teacher ... (be) very angry because we ... (talk).
