1. Why did we invite you?


To have a good idea of what our lessons/education looks like. So when you are representing our school at open days or when you are speaking to future students you will have more knowledge about the IMH education (than you already have of course ;)) 

Also, because we find it important to connect more with you and  to show and tell you in person what we are doing here at school, so we can see the differences but also, of course, the similarities.

3.1 Our CLIL aims
- create as many lessons as we can in English 

- each lesson has at least 1 language goal and 1 content goal

- professional and open  learning environment in which we work together  (content and language teachers) and help each other and we are aware of what our colleagues are teaching

- active learning environment for the students (focus on speaking and writing)

- our ultimate aim is to get Nuffic certified

Why we believe CLIL methodology is a good thing

* it improves student motivation
* the communication skills of students develop more effectively 
* meaningful interaction
* speaking and writing skills improve tremendously 
* CLIL developes cultural awareness
* CLIL learners are prepared for studying in another language

3.2 Courses for the teachers
CLIL course

2-day course with the basics of CLIL

(and preferably a yearly study day on which we go over all the CLIL basics again)
Cambridge course

All teachers are able to take a Cambridge course on B2/C1 level

3.3 Practical lessons in English
The practical lessons, cooking and serving, are taught in English. 

Instruction in English, and after the plenary start the students start working in the kitchen and restaurant. We try to get them to speak English the entire lesson.

  * last year we had weekly CLIL meetings in but they weren't very effective
  *now we have a CLIL cafe every period, which is well prepared and has a goal

  * high-tea to connect, CLIL cafe, 13th of April Finnish students, 22nd of March tour throughout the school

Other tasks:

    *keeping the CLIL vibe alive

    *prepare lessons together with the teachers (when asked)

    *give feedback on the use of English of the teachers (when asked)

    *check together with the teachers if the material is suitable (CEFR)

    *promote teamwork and collaboration between content and language teachers

    *get feedback from students on CLIL lessons
