Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord zegt iets over een
zelfstandig naamwoord.

Zelfstandig naamwoorden zijn mensen, dieren, dingen
en je kunt er vaak de, het of een voor zetten.

Adjectives are used after a copula or verbs of the senses

After copulas like to be, to seem and verbs of the senses like to feel, to look, to smell, to sound, to  taste we use an adjective.
1. My teachers are nice. 
2. That car looks beautiful. 
3. Haggis smells awful

Adverbs (bijwoorden)
Adverbs can describe other words. It answers the question How something is done.
Adverbs can describe:
1. VERBS
 Frank sings beautifully 
My brother drives carefully

Madonna sings beautifully.
("beautifully" zegt iets over de manier van zingen.)

The dog ate slowly.
("slowly" zegt iets over de manier van eten)

We walk quickly.
("quickly" zegt iets over de manier van lopen)

Exceptions adverbs
There are also irregular forms. For instance: the adverb of good is well. 
He is a good performer. He performs well. 

Some adverbs have the same form as the adjectives such as::. 
Fast (snel -fastly doesn't exist), fair (sportief/eerlijk), low (laag), high (hoog), hard (hard), long (lang), late (laat),  straight (onmiddelijk) 
- He's a fast driver, He drives fast

Exceptions adverbs
Of course the adverb hardly does exist but the meaning is different:
He works hard. - Hij werkt hard
He works hardly-Hij werkt nauwelijks
