The future...

This is a tense (tijd) we covered last year as well. When want to talk about the future (toekomst) we generally use: 

am/are/is + going to + hele werkwoord structure

will + het hele werkwoord 

shall....

Let's read this text..

In the future... I think I will study law. After I pass my final exams, I will determine what I want to study. I'm  not really sure if  it will be law school or archeology. Being an archeologist is something I want to become too. Firstly, I need to pass year 2. That's my goal. I'm going to study extra hard for the final test week. After that I am going to enjoy a well-deserved holiday together with my parents in Spain. They have already booked the tickets. They told me yesterday we're going to stay in a nice two-bedroom cottage not far away from Barcelona. 

What is the difference between these three tenses?
- I think I will study law in the future.
-I am going on a holiday to Spain this summer.
- The train to Arnhem always leaves at 9 o'clock.

am/are/is + going to + hele werkwoord (1)

*voor plannen die voor de toekomst zijn gemaakt.

- I am going to deliver some newspapers this afternoon. 

- We are going to watch our favourite series this weekend. 

- My sister is going to meet up with her tomorrow. 

am/are/is + going to + hele ww

*als er nu bewijs is dat iets in de toekomst gaat gebeuren. 

Look at those dark clouds and the weather forecast online. It's going to rain very heavily! We can't go out today. 

The home team is leading by 10-0 and there's only one second left on the clock. They are surely going to win today. 

will + hele werkwoord (1)

* will + het hele werkwoord gebruik je om aan te geven dat iets nog niet helemaal vaststaat in de toekomst. 

Bij de volgende signaalwoorden:  

-think (denk):  I think I will see her tomorrow.

-promise (beloof): I promise I will look after your dog.

-hope (hoop):  I hope she will recover from her injury. 

-if (als) If he passes his exams, he will organise a barbecue. 

(spontaan aanbod):  "oh help. I forgot to bring my wallet."  "Don't worry, I will pay the entrance fee to the amusement park."

Shall gebruik je altijd bij vraagzinnen met 'I en we' bij voorstellen... 

Shall I help you with your homework this afternoon?

Roostertijden / schema's

Je gebruikt de present simple (klas 1) om roostertijd en schema's aan te geven (ezelsbrug: werkwoord + s) 

* The shop opens at 8 a.m and closes at 9 p.m.

* Hockey practice starts at 9 o'clock on Wednesdays.

* The first period ends at a quarter past nine .
