Future tenses: predictions, plans, schedules, and offers

Op welke manieren kun je in het Engels een future tense maken?

Leerdoelen:

Begrijpen wanneer je de present simple, present continuous, be going to, en will/shall gebruikt bij de toekomst

Present simple

Toekomst volgens een vast schema (bijv. vertrek, aankomst, opening, ...):

• The train leaves at 8.07 a.m.
• The show begins at 7 o'clock.
• What time does English class start?

Vorm:

ww / ww + s

Bij vragen / ontkenningen: do / does + ww

Present continuous

Bij een afspraak of plannen waarvoor al voorbereid is:

• We are visiting my grandparents tomorrow.
• The band is playing at a party this Saturday.

Vorm:

am / is / are ww+ing

be going to + hele werkwoord

Bij een bestaand plan:

• My mother is going to buy a new phone.
• I am going to take the bus today.

Bij een voorspelling gebaseerd op bewijs:

• Look at the sky! It is going to rain soon.
• My friends are not going to like this film as they  hate musicals.

will / shall + hele werkwoord

Bij iets wat in de toekomst gaat gebeuren:

• I'm sure we will/shall enjoy ourselves during the show.

Bij een aanbod, belofte, voorstel, verzoek, wens, weigering:

• Shall we help you prepare for the test?

Bij een voornemen op het moment dat je het zegt (vaak bij "I think"):

• I think I will call in sick tomorrow.

Bij een voorspelling gebaseerd op een mening of bij onzekerheid toekomst:

• They will probably be late. 

will / shall + hele werkwoord

Bij iets wat in de toekomst gaat gebeuren:

• I'm sure we will/shall enjoy ourselves during the show.

Bij een aanbod, belofte, voorstel, verzoek, wens, weigering:

• Shall we help you prepare for the test?

Bij een voornemen op het moment dat je het zegt (vaak bij "I think"):

• I think I will call in sick tomorrow.

Bij een voorspelling gebaseerd op een mening of bij onzekerheid toekomst:

• They will probably be late.
