Chords

A chord is a combination of at least 3 tones. 

Chords are used to accompany a melodie.

Remeber that you should be able to play three different tones at the same time

Let's build a C-chord

1. When you start building a chord, you need a root note.

This is the same as the chord symbol

So for the C-chord, the root note is C

And for the F-chord, the root note is ......

Let's build a C-chord

1. When you start building a chord, you need a root note.

This is the same as the chord symbol

So for the C-chord, the root note is C

2. After this you go from left to right on the piano. 

You go from low to high. 

Let's build a C-chord

Now you have to count. 

Every step on the piano is a half tone higher.

From C to C# is a half tone higer

From C to D is one tone higher (2 x 1/2).

From D to F?

From E to F?

To built a MAJOR-chord, you go up 2 whole tones (4 steps on the piano) and than 1,5 tones higher (3 steps on the piano)

Attention: You don't use the root note as a step. 

C-chord

1. Start at the root note

2. Go up 2 whole tones. You will find the major third (2nd note)

3. Take 1.5 tones higher  up to find the fifth (3rd note)

D-chord

• What is the root note?. 
• 2 whole tones higher (third) = 

D-chord

• Root note is D. 
• A major third higher = F#

D-chord

• Root note is D. 
• 2 whole tones higher (major third) = F#
• ...... higher

D-chord

• Root note is D.
  
• 2 whole tones higher (major third) = F#
  
• 1.5 higher =
