In het Nederlands: lidwoorden.

Wanneer je in het Nederlands de of het voor een zelfstandig naamwoord zet, gebruik je in het Engels the. 

Wanneer je in het Nederlands een voor een znw zet, gebruik je in het Engels a of an. 

Lidwoord a/an

a gebruik je voor woorden die beginnen met een medeklinker:

a pet               a teacher           a book

a car                  a door               a room

 

Lidwoord a/an

an gebruik je voor woorden die beginnen met een klinker:

an ear            an investigation         an officer

an apple            an Englishman          an answer

 

Let op!

De keuze voor a of an hangt niet af van de (mede)klinker op papier, maar of je hemt hoort.

Soms schrijf je een -h maar hoor je hem niet -> dan gebruik je a.

Soms schrijf je een -u, maar hoor je een -j of - h -> dan gebruik je an.

Vormen van 'to be'

In de tegenwoordige tijd heb je drie vormen van 'to be', namelijk:

am, are & is

Voorbeelden:

Het werkwoord 'to be' afkorten

Je kunt het werkwoord 'to be' ook afkorten.

She is the best             --> She's the best

Dit kan alleen bij persoonlijke voornaamwoorden
