Past simple en past continuous in 1 zin... hoe werkt dit?

past continuous and simple

• als er een gebeurtenis in het verleden is begonnen, maar wordt onderbroken door een andere gebeurtenis. 
  

I was dancing (past C: duurt langer), when my brother came (past S: korte gebeurtenis) home.   
 

• als er twee gebeurtenissen (door 2 verschillende personen) in het verleden op hetzelfde moment waren uitgevoerd. 
  

I was reading, while my brother was studying.

Adjectives and Adverbs

Explanation 

Een adjective(bijvoeglijk naamwoord) zegt iets over een zelfstandig naamwoord (mensen, dieren,dingen)

Beyoncé is a                beautiful                lady.

Explanation

Een adverb (bijwoord) zegt iets over een werkwoord. Hoe iemand iets doet. 

Beyoncé     sings         beautifully.

Explanation

Een adverb (bijwoord) kan ook iets zeggen over een bijvoeglijk naamwoord.

The English teacher is an incredibly great teacher

Een bijwoord kan ook iets zeggen over een ander bijwoord

How do we make an adverb?

Je maakt een bijwoord door  - ly toe te voegen aan het bijv. nw

For example:

beautiful - beautifully               careful-carefully             loud-loudly

adjective:    the beautiful girl

adverb:         she sings beautifully

Exceptions 1 (uitzonderingen)

* bijv nw  eindigt op '-le'         =  bijwoord+ ly     terrible - terribly

* bijv nw eindigt op  medeklinker + -y  =  bijwoord +ily    

                                                 easy - easily

BELANGRIJK!!!!!

Bij sommige werkwoorden gebruiken we alleen een bijvoeglijk naamwoord. Dat zijn de werkwoorden die te maken hebben met je zintuigen. 

to be (zijn), to seem , to feel , to smell , to sound , to taste, to look

Het ruikt vreselijk. - It smells terrible.

BELANGRIJK!!!!

Sommige bijvoeglijk naamwoorden hebben een ander bijwoord:

He is a good boy. - He studies well.

Sommige bijvoeglijk naamwoorden blijven altijd dezelfde vorm houden.

Bij fast, long, fair, low, high,early,hard,late,

That is a fast car. - It drives fast.
