Future tense

Goals 

At the end of this lesson you can:

- Recognise forms of the future tense.

- You can use the forms of the future tense.

- You can apply the future tense in a writing assignment.

What verbs/ways do the English use
to talk about the future?

Will + infinitive (= hele ww)

• Beloftes/aanbieden/voornemens op het moment van spreken: I will help you with your homework. I will call you tomorrow. I will pick up the telephone.
• Gebeurtenissen (neutraal): The parcel will arrive next Thursday.
  
• Voorspellingen zonder bewijs: I think they will win the match 
• Na wens/voorspelling/belofte/gedachte: I think/hope/am sure that he will phone me
• Shall vs. will: Bij I & we in gewone zinnen, mag je beide gebruiken. In vraagzinnen met I/we MOET je shall gebruiken, tenzij je om informatie vraagt.

Will vs Shall

• Bij I & we in gewone zinnen, mag je beide gebruiken. 
• In vraagzinnen met I/we MOET je shall gebruiken, tenzij je om informatie vraagt.
• Voorbeelden: I will/shall be rich some day. Shall we go to the cinema? At what time will we arrive?

to be (am, is, are)+ going to + infinitive

- Intentie/Plannen zijn al bedacht:

I am going to visit aunt Betsy tomorrow.

- Voorspellingen met bewijs (you see it coming):

Look at all those clouds. It is going to rain soon.

Present Continuous = am, is, are + ww+ ing

Plannen waarvoor de voorbereidingen al gedaan zijn.

We are having dinner at a restaurant at 6.30. (made reservations)

I am flying to Paris next week. (bought the tickets)

Present Simple ww / ww+(e)s

Als er sprake is van vaste tijden (roosters, vertrek/aankomsttijden, openingstijden, starttijden van evenementen):

The stores close at six.

The plane leaves in ten minutes.

School starts at 8.15.

This lesson finishes at 14.00.
